It was Wellingtons time to shine on the 18th July, as the Regional Hairdressing Competitions took place. This highly anticipated event takes place annually in 14 regions across New Zealand. It allows Stylists to have an amazing opportunity to share and compare, be wowed and inspired!
It was a strong team of 12 from Blue Cactus that took to the floor at the Lower Hutt Town Hall. We came fully prepared with a makeup team, volunteers helping with event jobs, an organizer to co-ordinate team, competitors, models and of course the fantastic support from team mates, family and friends.

Kerri Win’s the opportunity to represent New Zealand internationally! After entering a photographic competition, Kerri WIN’s 1 out of 6 places to represent New Zealand through Intercoiffure international. The team of 6 will create a fashion collection to submit for the Intercoiffure international magazine… Go Kerri - Famous finally!

Intercoiffure launched a National Editorial Photo shoot competition which Kerri entered her latest photo collection last month. And to her absolutely delight she won the opportunity to be one of the stylist’s on this shoot. The collection is in the process of being designed with inspiration of international stylists Dan Awha and photographer Guy Coombes.
“Dreams do come true” say’s Kerri… “I see the opportunity as a fantastic place to work alongside an extremely talented group of New Zealand best hairdressers who I’ve always looked upto .
As a stylist who has been hairdressing for over 16 years, photographic and editorial work is an area I am passionate about. I want to explore this area more, not only for myself, but essentially to help grow and share the knowledge with Blue Cactus Hairdressing team and clients.
The opportunity came up to attend an Intercoiffure photographic course which was the perfect place to learn from two of New Zealand’s Hairdresser of the year finalist this year.
For my shoot I choose to use the ‘Rock’ genre as my inspiration with the knowledge of L’Oreal professionals Rock and Folk collection release. I’m loving the traditional mow hawk with a glamorous quaff feel, wearing slick through the to create elegance. Rock looks can be easily translated to elegant, edgy but also very commercial looks for salon work.
After I had created a clearer vision I meet with the wonderful fashion guru Samantha Hannah ( www.samanthahannah.co.nz) who styled my model for me. We headed to Ruby and Samantha whipped up a rock chick look with a military twist.
At the workshop they worked with us on how do select and get the best out of your model. Then once behind the camera they assisted us to get the best out of our model. Viewing instantly onto computer was the perfect way to do this.”
